caterina montanari
Born in Bologna, Italy, in 1991, Caterina finds first in circus, then in contemporary dance, her mean of physic expression. She grows up as gymnast and approaches circus through aerial disciplines. Soon, she understands for herself she wants to be able to take her art everywhere, not being dependent from a tool (typical feature of circus), except from her own body. She gets passionate and specializes in hand balancing, at Flic, circus school of Torino. Later on she moves to Genova to start a contemporary dance course that would changes her life. Here she meets her future colleagues with whom she co-founds CIFRA Danzateatro, an eclectic collective project of 9. With CIFRA, Caterina experiments the co-existence of dance and handstand, but also of theatre, choral singing and afro dance. The group get specialized in outdoor site-specific perfomances "IperBosco" and they're now taking the first steps in the comunities dance work.
Caterina also works as dancer and performer for Kinkaleri, DEOS and other companies and theatre.
A big part of Caterina's work is teaching: she collaborates with Associazione Sarabanda, working with children, persons with disabilities and adults, using circus, dance and voice as means of personal expression and tool to approach the word.

Her first stage experiences were in contemporary circus: with the show “Alea”, directed by Roberto Magro, she went on stage in Turin and Prague and worked in various festivals as a circus artist.
She works as a performing dancer in various companies, the main ones are Kinkaleri (in the show “OtellO”, nominated for the Ubu award, and in the performances “ManyMuchKissKissYou”, “YetDespiteKissKissYou”) and DEOS (on tour with “Tango Macondo”, a production of the Teatro Stabile of Bolzano, with Paolo Fresu and Ugo Dighero).
She also works in performances curated by the Teatro Nazionale di Genova and in the restage of “Le Table Vert” by Oltrenotte
With CIFRA Danzateatro she starts performance in natural environments and she's now part of the project Neine. The project is presented at Mirabilia, thanks to the support of Fnas and is selected as part of the "Simbiosi" call by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. Within this project CIFRA started an indoor creation, a show called "CORPOPERNATURE"
Teacher of balance and acrobatic for children aged 3 to 14 and hand balance for adults at Sircus, circus school in Genoa, in collaboration with Sarabanda Association. Among others, she is part of the Euroform project, where she educates people with various cognitive and motor disabilities through the circus. She conducts movement research and dance theater seminars with CIFRA.

In 2019 she attended "l'Azione Silenziosa", a specialization course promoted by Giovanni Di Cicco's DEOS company. Here, she practiced contemporary dance, ballet, floorwork, improvisation, Kinomichi and she studied dance history of 20th century. Among the teachers: Nicoletta Cabassi, Riccardo Maffiotti, Claudia Monti, Jean Sasportes, Francesca Zaccaria, Michal Mualem, Carlo Locatelli, Daniela Bendini She studied butoh with Yokko and Tadashi Endo

CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS
She graduated from Flic, circus school in Turin, in 2018, specializing in hand balance. Here she also practices acrobatics, contemporary dance, theatre. After the graduation, she attends the “Summer Intensive Course” at the Stockholm University of the Arts DOCH, where she studies hand balance and stage presence and dramaturgy.
Back in 2013 she got her bachelor in Interior Design at the Polytechnic of Milan
